  2. Connecting to a Canadian Internet Provider

  5. First you must obtain an Internet account number (User ID and password)  from Sympatico.  Please call 1-800-773-2121.  They will provide information on how to set up an account.

The Apple Internet Connection Kit (AICK) comes with the “Apple Internet Dialer” application which starts the process of allowing you to connect to the Internet.  After you have installed the AICK you can start the application by clicking on the “Dialer” from the “Launcher” (or by double clicking “Apple Internet Dialer”  from the Mac OS Finder).

  9. Once the program has started - select “Define Provider Information”  under “Provider” from the menu bar at the top of your screen.  The following screen will come up.

The “SERVICE PROVIDER ACCOUNT INFORMATION” screen allows you to enter the information required to identify you to Sympatico and the Internet.  Enter the information EXACTLY as show above EXCEPT for the <User Login> and <Password>.  These are unique to your account.  Please enter <User Login> and <Password> EXACTLY as provided by Sympatico.

The “SERVER INFORMATION” screen is detailed information required by the Internet to identify both you and Sympatico.  Enter the information EXACTLY as provided by Sympatico. Sympatico has a number of hosts and servers nationwide and their names and addresses will depend on your location. This information will be provided to you by Smpatico when you register.

  82. Once you have finished click the “Next” button in the lower right hand corner to move to the next OPTIONAL screen.

  84. Once you have registered with a Service Provider,  you will always have to enter your name and password.  Some services allow you to create a script so that you do not have to manually type in this information each time you wish to connect to the Internet.

  86. The following screen allows you to create a script that will automate the login sequence to your Service Provider.

The Registration Kit you receive from your Service Provider should indicate whether or not an automated login script is permitted with your service. If it is, complete this screen according to the instructions you receive with your Registration Kit, otherwise click the OK button in the lower right hand corner to complete the installation.  This will save the information you have entered and your Macintosh will restart automatically.  Once you have restarted, click on the Dialer and follow the instructions to connect to the Internet.
